I will be the first to admit that I’m not a ‘normal’ 26 year old. I would 100% rather stay in and have a game night with friends or family than go downtown to the bars (and I live 20 min south of Nashville!) Anyone else with me?? Whether it’s just the two of us or a large group, my husband Chris and I LOVE game nights and we’ve started a pretty impressive collection of games over the past two years.
Fun fact, when Chris and I first started dating we were only officially together for three weeks before I moved back home to Nashville after graduating college in Knoxville. With a three hour difference between us, we could only see each-other on weekends and often couldn’t make it work every weekend of the month. So.. since we were still trying to get to know each-other, Chris thought of a fun idea to play Words With Friends on Facebook during the week. Basically we’d put each-other on speaker phone and talk about our day as we played the game online. We had a blast! It was so much more fun to talk while playing a game than just sit on the phone for hours.
SO… I wanted to title this post “Favorite Adult Games to Play” but that sounded a little sketchy, so I dropped the Adult part. But, I did want to note that most of the games I’m listing below are for ages 8+, 12+, or 16+. Only a couple of the games listed truly are “Adult” or “dirty” games (NOT sexual…just to clarify :)!) I linked all of the games on Amazon because, well, pretty much everyone shops on Amazon and they are almost guaranteed to have them in stock! Clicking any of the pictures or gold links below will take your directly to Amazon’s website.
1.) Code Names
We got Code Names pretty recently and it quickly became my favorite! It forces you to think a little and get creative, which is what I love about it! I think it is definitely more fun to play in a group of 6 or more, but you can definitely play it with only 4. There are also a lot of different expansion packs / version. I plan on getting the Disney version for my family! See all game options HERE.
2.) Pictionary / Drawing Without Dignity
Ok, you do NOT need to be an artist what-so-ever to play these games! First off, the original Pictionary game is SO much fun and you can play it multiple ways. Either way you play I can guarantee you will have fun! Drawing Without Dignity is very similar to Pictionary but ‘Adult’ themed. Not all of the topics are dirty, but I will say that 85% of them are. Chris and I have had a blast playing both versions! // Below I’m linking the white board and markers we purchased to go with these games.
3.) Exploding Kittens
This is by far our favorite card game to play! The game takes a little bit to get the hang of it, but the people who created the game made a fun YouTube video that easily explains how the game works. Once you get the hang of it, it is SO much fun! All of our friends that have played this with us have ended up loving it! Basically the whole point of the game is to be the ‘last cat standing’ and not explode, and you get to pickup ‘action’ cards to help keep you alive. The game also has a few expansions which you can see HERE.
4.) (Settlers of) Catan
I had never heard of this game until two of our friends invited us to a game night and brought it out. It was very easy to pick-up on and SO much fun!! Basically you are trying to build the longest road / most settlements and cities to win. There is trading involved, so it is fun trying to barter with your friends / family! Click the above picture for more info about the game! You can also click HERE to see all of the different versions of the game / expansion packs. We recently got the Game of Thrones version and love it!
5.) What Do You Meme?
If you have played Cards Against Humanity, this one is very similar but uses pictures, more specifically popular memes that have floated around the internet, to base your responses off of. The point of the game is to pick a response that best represents the meme while also taking into account who you are playing the card too. This one is adult themed so be careful playing it with family members! 🙂 You can view all of the expansion packs for the game HERE.
6.) Sequence
This game for sure takes some thinking, but it is a blast! I have the most fun playing with 4 people on two teams (the board is easier to manage), but you can have up to 12 players. The goal of this game is for your team to get 2 sets of 5 in a row on the board, but you and your teammate can’t speak or signal to each-other regarding what cards you are holding! See all game options / versions HERE.
7.) Farkle
This dice game is like Yahtzee on steroids! Definitely takes a little more thinking but is also more fun! This game is kid-friendly, but children under the age of 8 may not catch onto it very well. If you’re looking for an easier, fun game to play with friends this is it! This game is very easy to learn and you can pretty much have up to as many players as you want. See all game options HERE.
8.) Rollers
This dice game is SUPER easy to learn, fast-paced, and fun! If you are looking for an easy, quick-paced game this is it! This dice-matching game is best for smaller groups since you can only have up to 5 players.
9.) Words With Friends / Scrabble
I’m sure most of you have played Scrabble at some point, but Chris and I actaully prefer Words With Friends! They are basically the same game, but WWF has a much more modern look to it and the rules on what words you can use are slightly different between the games. Usually we both have a word-checking website open while we play to make sure our words actually qualify. 🙂 This game is challenging (at least for me!) and does take a long time to play, but it is definitely worth it!
10.) Cards Against Humanity
You really can’t have a favorite games list without Cards Against Humanity. Still one of my favorite Adult party games even though it’s been out for a long time now. I love this game because it’s fun to try and figure out what your family / friends will truly find funny. Surprisingly, Chris NEVER picks my card during this game! See all expansion options listed HERE.
