My husband and I did something a lot of our friends and family said they could never stand to do.. we waited until delivery to find out the gender of our first baby! I feel like there’s very few true surprises in life and that was a happy, exciting one. Since we waited to find out the gender we decided to go with a boho gender neutral nursery design. Honestly this is the nursery design I always wanted anyway and I’m glad it easily worked for either gender!

When picking out furniture and décor for our boho gender neutral nursery we wanted mainly beige / cream pieces with hints of gray to break everything up. We already had an off-white carpet and added a pretty cream western print accent wall. Again, to keep everything from looking too beige we went with light gray nursery furniture. We also added in a lot of pampas grass to keep things soft and airy.

Nursery Tips

When picking out furniture and decor for your nursery, you want everything to be cohesive but also functional. There was actually another crib I really loved the look of that I felt fit the design of the room better, but after seeing it in person in just didn’t seem sturdy. So there’s definitely a fine balance between style and functionality. When taking care of a new baby you want everything to flow as smoothly as possible!

Some of my baby nursery must-haves:

  • Crib with storage underneath
  • Night light sound machine combo
  • Washable waterproof pads to go on top of changing pad
  • A good glider / rocker (this was our biggest splurge item and we are glad we did!)
  • Diaper caddy + a cart next to the changing table if there isn’t room on top of it
  • Good blackout curtain
