Starting solids with your baby can seem SUPER daunting. Purees, baby led weaning, store bought, homemade… there’s so many different options! You can also find 100 different people telling you 100 different ways you should be introducing new foods / allergens. Needless to say I started to get a tad overwhelmed when my baby was coming up on 6 months.
What I ultimately decided would be best for me was starting with purees the first 1-2 weeks and only doing solids at breakfast and dinner. I am going to be introducing one new food at each mealtime and doing that same food for 2-3 days before moving on to another one. After the first few weeks I’m going to start mixing foods for purees and introducing BLW (baby led weaning) depending on how she’s doing. I also decided I wanted to try to make all of her food at home to start out but am open to buying baby food if it becomes too overwhelming for me (there’s lots of great organic options out there!).
What I Bought for Starting Solids with Baby
Before starting solids with baby, I placed a big Amazon purchase to get everything I think I’ll need to get started. This included:
- Baby Food Maker (to quickly steam fruits, veggies, fish & meat + puree if necessary)
- Silicone Plates that suction to the high chair
- Baby Spoons with grip (the ones I got can also be used as little teethers!)
- Waterproof + Washable Bibs
- Sippy Cup with a Straw for water in between bites (only if necessary + to practice drinking with a straw)
- Baby Food Freezer Tray with lid (to pre-make food if I want to)
- Stain Remover
- Plant Based High Chair cleaning spray
