Alright guys, we are finally getting closer to the cooler weather and I couldn’t be more excited! I’m all about summer time, laying by the pool, grilling.. but after Labor Day it’s like a switch goes off and I’m all about Fall!! Chris and I are looking forward to using our new fire pit on the cooler fall nights and we’re trying to plan a camping trip or two!
One of my FAVORITE trends for fall is the faux leather leggings! I love them because they are something fun & different to have in your closet and can easily be dressed up or down, making them super versatile. At first I thought the faux leather leggings would be really uncomfortable and kind of stick to you, but that is definitely NOT the case with the Spanx leggings! They are very comfortable and I can personally vouch for that because I’ve worn them running errands all day in the TN heat and may have even napped in them a time or two.
So.. I’ve already told you how awesome faux leather leggings are, but you do have options when it comes to the pair you want to buy. Most retailers offer their own version but I believe the Spanx version is the most comfortable and best looking (and they have TONS of reviews to back this up!).
But, there are two different Spanx faux leather leggings out there.. One pair is $98 and the other is $38 (so a pretty big difference). Below I’m going to break down the pros and cons to buying the Splurge Option ($98) or the Save Option ($38).
Splurge – $98
The Original Spanx Faux Leather Leggings
Texture: The texture of these leggings is AMAZING! They honestly do look like leather and are absolutely beautiful!
Comfort: These leggings are very comfortable. I expected them to be uncomfortable and ‘stick’ to me (like real leather would), but that is definitely not the case! They are comfortable enough to run errands in, nap in, travel in.. Basically they are good to go for anything you need to tackle!
The only possible negative I want to point out regarding comfort is the fact that most people (including myself) recommend going up one size. I’m typically an XS at Nordstrom and I had to get the Small in these leggings for a comfortable fit. Nordstrom offers free shipping and returns so you can always order both sizes (normal and up one) and see which one fits you better!
One other possible negative is, though they are super comfortable, they are not like regular leggings where they have a ton of stretch to them. There is a good amount, just not as much as you would expect with regular leggings.
Style: You wouldn’t expect it, but these leggings can be style SO many different ways! They can easily be dressed down with some tennis shoes and a hoodie/cardigan, dressed up with a long satin or chiffon cami, and worn this fall with booties and a sweater. Going back to the texture, they are so pretty it makes it really easy to wear them with just about anything!
High-Waisted: I LOVE how high-waisted these leggings are! They suck you in (since they are Spanx brand they do an amazing job at this!) and are super flattering!
Availability: These leggings are available at TONS of different retailers and in multiple colors so it should be easy to find the size / style you want. This also means you have a better chance at snagging them on sale since retailers have very different sale schedules.
Price: Obviously this is the biggest negative for these leggings. I will say that I do believe they are worth the money if you are willing to splurge on them!
Save – $38
Red Hot by Spanx Faux Leather Leggings
Texture: The texture of the Red Hot by Spanx version of the faux leather leggings is definitely different than the ones mentioned above. The texture is less glossy and a little more matte, so you still get the faux leather effect but not to the extent of the other pair.
I also want to point out that this pair does not have the faux leather all the way around, only on the front. The back part of the leggings is your typical cotton blend legging material (black to match the faux leather on the front).
Comfort: These leggings are SUPER comfortable. Because they are a little more like regular leggings than the ones above (less like leather), they are more stretchy giving you more comfort.
Style: I believe this pair, like the pair above, can be dressed up or down pretty easily. The only difference being the texture is a little more matte, so less “high-end”, so it may be a little more difficult to dress these up than the other pair. But, if you are looking to wear these more casually then this pair is absolutely perfect!
High-Waisted: This pair is also high-waisted, and since they are also by Spanx they do a good job at sucking in your tummy area, aka super flattering! This pair does not “shape you” as well as the other one, but it they do look really good.
Availability: From what I have found this pair is only available at Kohl’s, so you can’t really cross-shop / look for deals. But, you can use Kohl’s cash / rewards which is nice, you just can’t use promo codes on them.
Price: For the price, I think this pair is AMAZING! Good quality, nice texture, comfortable, flattering, and all for under $40.
