I can’t believe I’m already at the end of my first trimester! Not going to lie, laying in bed sick for almost an entire month made it go by slow but fast at the same time [if that makes sense :)]. Since I am now at the end of my first trimester, I wanted to recap my first trimester purchases / what helped me the most. If you are newly expecting I hope this post can help you out a bit! I’ll share all of the items and if they worked / didn’t work.

Prenatal Vitamin

There are TONS of prenatal vitamins out there! It can definitely be overwhelming trying to choose one. I asked my OBGYN which one she recommended which ended up being the Nature Made Prenatal Multivitamin with 200 mg DHA. It’s available on Amazon and I also look for it to go on sale at Sam’s Club! My doctor actually recommended I start taking it prior to going off birth control which I did do (I started it 2 months before going off). That way if you do become pregnant baby is already getting the extra vitamins they need in the early development weeks. I’ve had zero side effects / issues taking this!

Morning Sickness

Below I’m going to list out the items I purchased to help deal with morning sickness and if they worked! There are lots of other great products out there as well and a lot of my friends recommended ginger candies. I tried some but had to get ones that didn’t taste like ginger because unfortunately I hate the taste.

  • Pink Stork Nausea Sweets: Lite Peppermint – This one helped me the most! I love the taste of peppermint and it seemed to help combat the nausea better than the ginger candies for me.
  • Preggie Pop Drops Plus w/Vitamin B6 – These come in a ton of flavors and I ended up getting the sour raspberry and sour lemon combo. It was good for me to have these along with the peppermint candies because they were very different flavors so I never got sick of them! These definitely helped just not as well as the peppermint ones in my opinion.
  • Sea-Band Anti-Nausea Acupressure Wristbands – I actually had these back in high school when I went on a trip to Europe to help with motion sickness on the tour buses. I do think they help a bit, you just have to practice a tad to find the right spot on your wrist. Even if it was more of a mental thing I recommend giving them a try! (they are very inexpensive)

Bloating

Bloating and constipation was a HUGE issue for me in the very early weeks of pregnancy. It got a bit better later in the first trimester but did still linger. Two products that really helped me were the Pink Stork Pro: Prenatal Probiotic and good old Metamucil 3-in-1 Fiber Supplements. Both a probiotic and Metamucil were recommended and ok’d by my doctor!

I especially love the Pink Stork probiotic because it’s specifically designed for pregnant women and it’s very gentle on your stomach. I take the probiotic every evening along with my prenatal vitamin and I take the Metamucil 1-2 times daily as needed. AKA when I get super bloated or backed up I take them for a few days until it calms down.

A lot of my friends who have kids, as well as my doctor, recommended the Colace oral pill for bloating and constipation but I haven’t tried it myself! It should be available at most drug stores / grocery stores.

Clothes

I have not ordered many new clothes in the first trimester specifically due to pregnancy except for some new bras and undies. The first thing to change on my body was my boobs going up about 2 cup sizes and any other weight gain seemed to go straight to my hips / booty! The only new ‘clothes’ I ordered were more of the Offline By Aerie Crossover Leggings. They are SO comfy and very stretchy, so perfect for now and when the bump starts to show!
